Kathakali : Censor board banned a Malayalam film as well stating nudity issue

Recently the Indian Cinema industry is shook with a decision from Censor Board of Film Certification as they had banned Hindi film named Udta Punjab. They had suggested 89 cuts from the film and also recommended to change its title. But, the whole Indian film fraternity went against this decision by censor board which banned a realistic film like Udta Punjab.

Many prominent figures had criticized the censor board and even the Bomaby High Court went against the board by saying that their duty is to certify film and not to censor or ban a movie. People like Rajeev Ravi, Ashiq Abu etc also went against the illogical censorship rules of the censor board. Now, after all this, a Malayalam film also got banned by Censor board siting the issue of nudity.

It is a film named Kathakali directed by Oscar Saijo Kannanaikkal and it is a film about the life of a Kathakali artist. There is a scene in this film in which the Kathakali artist removes the costumes of Kathakali from his body and walks to a river named Bharathapuzha. Censor board said that the nudity in that scene is unacceptable and because of that they had denied to certify this movie. It was strange that the censor board had certified films like Maztizaade and Kya Cool Hai hum which has lot of vulgar scenes it and they refused to certify realistic films like Udta Punjab and now Kathakali.

Earlier they also gave Adults only certificate to Rajeev Ravi film Kammatipadam here in Mollywood saying that there is too much violence in it. Rajeev Ravi had said that it is a pure case of denying the freedom of expression and speech in a democratic country like India.
