KPAC Lalitha passes away
Veteran actress KPAC Lalitha passed away on Tuesday due to age-related ailments. She was 74. Lalitha was hospitalised due to multiple health issues in November. After her health improved, she was later shifted to her son Sidharth Bharathan’s residence in Kochi. Cremation will be held at her residence in Wadakkanchery on Wednesday. Public homage will be paid at her house at Thrippunithura and later at Thrissur.
A legend in the field of cinema, Lalitha has starred in over 550 films in a career spanning five decades. She has also won two National awards and multiple Kerala State awards. Though she worked primarily in Malayalam cinema and theatre, she has also done notable roles in Tamil films.
She started her acting career with KPAC, a theatre collective in Kayamkulam, Kerala. She made her debut in cinema with ‘Koottukudumbam’, directed by KS Sethumadhavan. In 1978, she married filmmaker Bharathan and took a break from film acting for sometime. She made her return with her husband’s film ‘Kattathe Kilikkoodu’ (1983).
Following Lalitha’s passing away, the whole of Malayalam film industry has expressed their condolences. She is survived by Lalitha her daughter Sreekutty and son Sidharth.
