Lal to play a warrior in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan

Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s dream project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is set to begin shortly. Casting and other pre-production works are nearing completion. The director’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are collaborating for this mega budget film’s production. The cast includes top several top stars from Indian cinema including Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Keerthy Suresh and Trisha.

From Malayalam film industry, Jayaram and Lal are part of the cast. The latter will be playing an aged warrior’s role in the film. For that, he is currently undergoing training in horse riding. Lal himself revealed this in a recent interview. He also added that, Mani Ratnam is the only person in his two decade-long career to whom he has asked for a chance. Lal was earlier offered a role in the director’s 2013 film, ‘Kadal’ but he could not do it in then due to other commitments.

Lal is a well known face outside Kerala as well. He recently played a significant role in the multilingual Prabhas starrer ‘Saaho’. He is also part of the upcoming Dhanush film which will be directed by ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame Mari Selvaraj. In Tamil, he also has films coming up with Karthi and Vikram Prabhu.
