Ace filmmaker Lenin Rajendran passes away
Malayalam filmmaker and screenwriter Lenin Rajendran passed away at Chennai Apollo Hospitals on Monday. Aged 67, he was undergoing treatment after a liver transplant surgery at the hospital. His mortal remains is likely to be brought to his native place in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
Lenin Rajendran was part of the new wave in the Malayalam film industry during the 80s. Some of his most acclaimed films include Venal, Chillu, Meenamasathile Sooryan, Swathi Thirunal and Rathrimazha. He is a five-time Kerala State Film Award winner and was also honoured with the International Film Critics Award for the best Malayalam film for his film, Makaramanju screened at the 2010 IFFK.
Lenin Rajendran, a staunch leftist, had also unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections twice from Ottapalam seat. He was also the chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC). Several eminent personalities within the film industry and politicians condoled his passing away.
