Mamangam is not a Baahubali like film, it’s a war film like Pazhassi Raja and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha: M Padmakumar
Mammootty’s hugely hyped period flick ‘Mamangam’ is getting ready to hit screens next month. Considering the huge budget and scale at which it is made, there will obvious comparisons with ‘Baahubali’, the benchmark film in Indian cinema for this genre. However, the makers have repeatedly stressed that ‘Mamangam’ is not a ‘Baahubali’ like film. Recently, director M Padmakumar made it clear that it is instead a war film on the lines of his mentor Hariharan’s ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’ and ‘Pazhassi Raja’
‘Mamangam’, as per the makers, is a historic film with almost 80% of it being inspired from true events. The film is based on the religious festival, Mamangam, that took place every 12 years in a place called Thirunavaya, on the banks of Bharathapuzha, for over 280 years.
Mammootty will be seen playing a ‘chaaver’ in the film. Unni Mukundan is also playing a very important character named Chandroth Panicker. The supporting cast also includes Kaniha, Anu Sithara, Prachi Tehlan, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan, Manikandan, Ineya, Siddique, Sudev Nair and Sudheer Sukumaran.
‘Mamangam’ is currently in the final stages of post-production. The film is scheduled to hit screens on November 21. The makers are planning it as the biggest ever release in Kerala. Apart from Malayalam, it is also releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages as well. Venu Kunnappilly of Kavya Films is producing the film.
