Markakar will be a landmark film for Priyadarshan and me: Mohanlal

‘Marakkar Arabikadinte Simham’ is easily the most awaited Malayalam film in recent years. It is a dream come true project for Priyadarshan and Mohanlal, who both have been planning to make it for several years now. Mohanlal firmly believes that it will be a landmark film in both their careers.

‘Marakkar’ is an epic historic film that is is based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV. According to the makers, it is a patriotic film that will be a tribute to Kunjali Marakkar, who is regarded as India’s first naval chieftain. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief of Zamorin of Calicut in the 16th century, whose duty was to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army.

The film is being made on a whopping budget of about Rs 100 crore with top artists and technicians from across the country associated with it. Director Priyadarshan has confidently claimed that it will be the most technically perfect film to have ever been made in Indian cinema.

Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing this mega budget film. It is originally scheduled for release on March 26 but due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak worldwide, chances are high for the release to get postponed
