Mersal wins Best Foreign Language Film Award at National Film Awards UK

Tamil superstar Vijay’s Mersal has won the prestigious Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 4th annual National Film Awards UK for 2018. The Atlee directorial was India’s official entry and it competed with films from various other countries like, France, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Chile, South Africa, Lebanon etc. It is truly an incredible achievement for team Mersal as this is the first time an Indian movie is winning the foreign language film award at the NFA, UK.

Mersal is currently the highest grosser in Tamil cinema. The movie was released in October last year for Diwali and it went on to do phenomenal business. Vijay played triple roles in the movie, which had Samantha, Kajal Agarwal and Nithya Menen as the female leads.

Mersal had a usual revenge story with a very relevant social message about the importance of a proper health sector in the country. The protagonist in the film fights for free medical facilities to all, regardless of their financial background. The movie was scripted jointly by Atlee, KV Vijayendra Prasad and Ramana Girivasan.

Some dialogues in the movie stirred controversy as political parties and doctors staged protests and demanded for boycotting the movie. But the issues proved to be a blessing in disguise as Mersal caught nationwide attention and did massive business at the box office, worldwide.
