Moothon will be a movie that Malayalis can be proud of: Nivin Pauly

Actress-turned-filmmaker Geetu Mohandas is making her directorial debut in Malayalam with Moothon starring Nivin Pauly in the lead. It is one of the most awaited movies in recent years for it involves some of the country’s best available technicians. The team have been shooting in multiple schedules for the past few months.

Nivin Pauly’s character in Moothon will be one of his most challenging roles to date. He is sporting a different look for the movie with a closely cropped hair. In the movie’s first look poster, released few months back, Nivin was seen in a rough avatar with a shaven head and a pierced nose.

Apparently, Nivin has pinned high hopes on the movie. In a recent interview to TOI, he assured that Moothon will be a movie that Malayali audience can always be proud of. He is quoted saying, “Moothon is very much a mainstream movie. Be it Geetu, Rajeev Ravi or Anurag Kashyap, the people behind it are supremely talented. For graphics, the team who have worked in Life of Pi have been roped in. The grandeur, technology and story will ensure that it would be a movie that Malayalis can be proud of.”

Moothon is the story of a man called Mullakoya from Lakshadweep. The movie is about his journey to find his brother. ‘Moothon’ is actually an island slang for elder brother. The story of Moothon had won the global filmmaking award in Sundance film festival 2016.

Geetu Mohandas’s husband and cinematographer/ filmmaker Rajeev Ravi is cranking the camera. Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is making his entry to Mollywood by collaborating with Geetu Mohandas in writing the Hindi dialogues. Thaikkudam Bridge fame Govind Menon is handing the music department.

Eros International and Bollywood filmmaker Anand L Rai’s new production house Colour Yellow Productions will be presenting the movie under the banner Jar Pictures.
