Movies to release without Exhibitiors Federation’s co-operation; Ezra to hit screens on 19th

It has been almost a month since the Exhibitors Federation called for a strike over profit share issues. Even after the several rounds of discussions, there seems to be no settlement over the issue. The producers association have now decided to release movies without the co-operation of the Exhibitors Federation.

A-class theatre owners union, Exhibitors Federation have demanded a 50-50 share from the theatrical collections of new movies. Producers and distributors have opposed this demand fearing losses. Many rounds of discussions were held between the two parties with the cultural affairs Minister AK Balan acting as a meditator, but they have failed to reach a consensus.

In the current scenario, producers association have decided to release movies in theatres that can agree upon the existing 60-40 shares, government screens and all the B Class theatres. According to the producers, new movies will release on January 12, 19 and 26 dates.

The Exhibitors Federation have called for a meeting on Tuesday to review about the ongoing strike. The producers association have made it clear that they will take strong calls against the exhibitors if they are not willing to settle the issues before January 19. If they fail to reach on a compromise, no more Malayalam movies will be distributed to A-class theatres.

The producers and distributors have also decided to release Vijay’s upcoming movie Bairavaa without the co-operation of the exhibitors federation. The distributors association and produers have discussed the matter with E4, Kerala distributors of Bairavaa.

According to sources, Kamboji starring Vineeth and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy will first hit the screens on January 12 followed by Prithviraj’s horror thriller Ezra on 19. Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikalal Thalirkkumbol, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal and Jayasurya’s Fukri will also release soon.
