Nagarjuna confirms talks with makers of Mohanlal’s Rs 1000 crore Mahabharata!

The Mahabharata has been in the news ever since it was earlier this year. Renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar will be directing this film which is said to the most expensive Indian movie ever. UAE based Indian businessman Dr BR Shetty is investing Rs 1000 crores for this epic project.

The Mahabharata is the official adaptation of legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel Randamoozham, which in turn is based on the Indian epic Mahabharata. Mohanlal has already been confirmed to play the central character of Bheema in this movie. The makers had informed that several leading actors from other industries will be part of this movie.

Reports about Telugu superstar Nagarjuna playing the role of Karnan has been doing the rounds for sometime now. The veteran actor, in a recent interview, confirmed having talks with the makers, while he is not sure how long it will take for the things to finalise. “Director Sukumaran had initiated the talks with me some time ago for Karna’s role. But, nothing is finalised yet and I’m not too sure how long does it take for things to shape up,” he said.

Earlier in a media interaction also Nagarajuna had revealed about holding talk for playing a prominent role in the movie. He was quoted as saying, “My next film after RGG (Raju Gari Gadhi – 2), could be Mahabharata and I was asked by writer Vasudevan Nair to play Karna’s role in the movie. I’m aware of Shrikumar’s efforts to make the movie for the past four years and I got this offer, two years ago. Recently, Vasudevan asked me once again for my dates. I told him I will be a part of the movie if my character is also given enough importance and the writer said, it will be a prominent role. I’m waiting for the project to shape up completely and then I can share more details about it.”

Chances of Nagarjuna working in The Mahabharata are on the higher side as he has worked with director VA Shrikumar in several of his ad films. Nagarjuna is also a very popular actor in the South. So that will certainly help the commercial prospects of the movie. Meanwhile, there are also reports about Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan being part of this prestigious project. We are still waiting for an official word from the makers.

This epic movie will be filmed in two parts and will be made as a multilingual in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and English. They are planning to commence the shoot by August, next year. It would have a worldwide release in 2020. The second part of the movie would be released from 90 days of the first part.
