Peranbu selected for Korean Indian Film Festival
Mammootty’s Tamil film ‘Peranbu’ continues to go places as the film has now been selected for screening at the Korean Indian Film Festival. It is being hosted by the embassy of India in Seoul, Indian Cultural Center Seoul-Busan and Korean Film Archive. Earlier, ‘Peranbu’ was also screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR), Shanghai International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Upon its theatrical release in February this year, the film directed by Ram found widespread critical acclaim for its poignant storytelling style and the superlative performances of its two lead actors – Mammootty and Sadhana. The former’s phenomenal performance is easily one of the finest in Indian cinema in recent years.
‘Peranbu’ tells the story of an affectionate father and his spastic teenage daughter. Mammootty’s performance as the doting father whose subtle emotional outbursts that come from his helplessness is quite remarkable. He was expected to be a strong contender for this year’s National award for best actor. However, the jury snubbed the film and Mammootty’s performance which led to severe backlash in social medias. The star had to apologize to jury chairman Rahul Rawali for the abuse faced from fans.
