Petta and Viswasam open to tremendous response!

Amidst huge fanfare, Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’ and Ajith’s ‘Viswasam’ has hit screens today (January 10). The day witnessed what is said to be one of the biggest box office clashes in recent Tamil cinema history. Though a clash could have been averted, both the films wanted to cash in on the extended weekend and turns out the decision has proved fruitful for both the parties.

After the initial shows, general audience response for both ‘Petta’ and ‘Viswasam’ have been highly positive. Going by the reports, seems like both the films have managed to live up to the expectations. While ‘Petta’ has been given a clean chit as an out and out Rajini show, ‘Viswasam’ is that typical family-festive entertainer with a spirited Ajith shouldering the film.

Fans, celebrities and common audience alike have been heaping praise on ‘Petta’ director Karthik Subbaraj for bringing back the vintage Rajinikanth. As promised, the movie leaves the audience ‘Rajinified’ with the superstar in fabulous form. It has been a long while since the audience has seen Rajinikanth in a cool and massy avatar and that seems to have worked big time in ‘Petta’. Though the movie has some other big names in Vijay Sethupathi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, reviews have largely been centred around Rajinikanth.

‘Viswasam’, Ajith’s fourth film with director Siva evoked mixed feelings before release as the actor-director duo’s last film, ‘Viswasam’, was a huge disappointment. But the combo have struck gold this time by successfully dishing out an entertainer aimed at the families who throng theatres in large numbers during this holiday season. With a charismatic actor like Ajith at the helm of things and equally spaced out songs, romance, comedy and family emotions, ‘Viswasam’ has everything that one would expect from a mass masala entertainer.

With the kind of opening that ‘Petta’ and ‘Viswasam’, it is safe to say that 2019 has started on a great note for Kollywood.
