Popular playback singer KK passes away

Playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away last night in Kolkata. The 53-year-old fell ill while performing a performing at Nazrul Mancha for Gurudas College’s fest when he fell ill. Though he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared brought dead.

Born to Malayali parents CS Menon and Kunnath Kanakavalli, KK was brought up in New Delhi. He began his career by singing for advertisement jingles before AR Rahman launched him in films with ‘Kadhal Desam’ (1996). In a career spanning over 25 years, KK went on to record songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati.

In South, KK delivered most of his hits in Tamil. He frequently collaborated with composers like AR Rahman, Harris Jayaraj, Vidyasagar and Yuvan Shankar Raja. More recently, Harris had recorded a song with him for the upcoming film, ‘Legend’.

People from all walks of the society, including film industry celebrities and politicians, are paying their condolences for KK through social media.
