Pulimurugan grossed 100 crores because of the increase in ticket charges : KB Ganesh Kumar

As the clash between Film Exhibitors Federation and Producers Association for the theatrical shares continue, ex-minister actor KB Ganesh Kumar has come out against both the groups. He has asked for the government to legally resolve the issue by controlling the steep increase in ticket rates.

The actor said, “Both the groups are responsible for the current situation in Malayalam cinema industry. Whenever there has been a commercially profitable period in the industry, a strike will be called and this has been the trend for the past many years. Both the associations are trying to take decision that are favourable for themselves and not for the betterment of the film industry. With the steep increase in ticket rates, both the producers and the theatre owners have reaped profit whatever be the shares.”

Movies like Pulimurugan and Premam crossed 100 and 50 crores majorly because of the high ticket price. Ticket prices ranging from 350-500 are truly unjustifiable. According to the law prevailing currently, the State minister in charge of cinema cannot interfere and compromise the issue between the two issues. This rule should be amended and made like the one in Tamil Nadu.”

The theatre owners association, Exhibitors Federation have demanded for half of the theatrical shares of the upcoming releases.

Distributors and producers have firmly opposed this demand made by theatre owners. As a result a cinema strike was called for and many highly expected releases scheduled to release for Christmas had to be postponed to later dates.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal was initially scheduled to release on December 16th but got postponed. Prithviraj’s Ezra and Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikalal Thalirkkumbol are the other biggies which were scheduled to release for this Christmas.
Only the release of Malayalam movies will be affected due to the issue. Aamir Khan’s Dangal will release as per schedule on December 23.
