Pulimurugan, Oppam : Mohanlal magic in Box Office

Superstar Mohanlal is having a golden year in terms of successes. His last two releases in Malayalam, Oppam and Pulimurugan are still running successfully in theatres.

Pulimurugan is the bigger hit among the two. It was released on October 7th during the Pooja holidays. Expectations surrounding the movie were sky high and that helped in getting a massive initial response.

Ever since the movie was released, theatres have been witnessing unprecedented rush. The movie had earlier crossed 60 crores in record time. Reports suggest that Pulimurugan is nearing the 75 crore mark.

This is the first time in Malayalam cinema history that a movie is getting such a huge response from the audience.

It is a known fact that no other in Mollywood can match the star power and fan base of Mohanlal. He is proving that statement correct again with Pulimurugan and Oppam.

Even after three weeks of the release, Pulimurugan is still running to packed theatres in most parts of Kerala. Many theatres are still running extra shows for Pulimurugan.

Pulimurugan was written by Udhayakrishna and directed by Vysakh. Tomichan Mulakupadam produced this action drama under his banner Mulakupadam films.

Most of the crowd these days are repeat audience. Earlier there were reports that Pulimurugan will touch the 100 crore mark and become the first Malayalam movie to do so. But now it looks like the movie will not stop at hundred crores.

Meanwhile Oppam is also continuing its amazing run in theatres. Oppam was released during the Onam season. Even after 60 days of its theatrical run, the movie continues to run successfully. Oppam became the fastest 50 crore grosser in Mollywood before Pulimurugan bettered the record.

Oppam marked the reunion of master filmmaker Priyadarshan and Mohanlal. Oppam was a crime throller, a genre that Priyadarshan tried for the first time in his long illustrious career.

It is a rare phenomenon in any industry where two movies of an actor are turning out into all time blockbusters. Mohanlal is time and again proving his status as the emperor of Box Office in Mollywood.
