Ranam is a result of Prithviraj’s undeterred commitment and encouragement: Director Nirmal Sahadev

Prithviraj is going through a lean patch of late, with most of his recent films failing to click at the box office. But his next release Ranam – Detroit Crossing looks super promising from the promos. Nirmal Sahadev, a former associate of the ace Shyamaprasad, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Ranam does not look like a typical action entertainer. It has a style that instantly reminds one of Hollywood action flicks.

Nirmal credits his hero Prithviraj for helping him translate his vision on screen. According to the director, it was the constant support from Prithviraj that helped him and his team to come up with something unique like Ranam. Last day, he wrote a note in his Facebook handle which reads,

“Thank you so much for the amazing responses to the Ranam title track! People keep telling us it is completely new and fresh, and asking us how we attempted something of that nature? To everyone, the answer is having a supremely creative and supportive team, and a star like Prithviraj Sukumaran on your side offering the space to do exactly what is right for the film. As a writer/director, I have felt fortunate to have this sort of support from day one, being there as actor, friend and mentor. As we continue with post production, the entire team feels the same vibe. Prithviraj has been an early supporter of Jakes Bejoy and it was always Jakes’ dream to compose for a Prithviraj film. Ranam is what it is today because of Prithvi’s undeterring commitment to the film and this track is the result of that encouragement. We were able to explore our creative talents without any barriers! While we finish post and move towards a release date, we are more and more grateful for the responses and support we are getting. Forever thankful!”

Ranam shot entirely in the US explores the lives of the immigrant community in Detroit, Michigan. Prithviraj plays a Tamil street gang member in the movie, which is inspired by real life incidents. The movie has some high voltage action scenes choreographed by Christopher Brunetti, a renowned stuntman who has worked in many English movies.

Cinematography is handled by Jigme Tenzing and Jakes Bejoy is handling the music department. Sreejith Sarang is in charge of the edits. The movie’s supporting cast includes Rahman, Isha Talwar, Sampath Raj and Ashwin K Kumar of ‘Jacobinte Swargarajyam’ fame. Ranam, produced jointly by Anand Kumar Payyanur of Yes Cinema Company and Rani Lawson Biju of Lawson Entertainment, is expected to hit screens by the end of this month.
