Renowned Mollywood Director Alphonse Puthren Steps Back from Theatrical Cinema: Startling News for Film Enthusiasts

Alphonse Puthren, a celebrated name in Mollywood’s filmmaking realm, has taken the industry by surprise with a recent announcement on his social media platforms, revealing his decision to step away from creating cinema for traditional theaters. The acclaimed director shared a heartfelt note, disclosing his intention to relinquish his career in theatrical cinema. Even though he deleted the Instagram Post after some time, the screenshot of his social media note is going viral now.

In his candid revelation, Puthren disclosed his diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, a realization he arrived at independently. Expressing a desire not to be a burden on others, he outlined his decision to discontinue making films for theaters. However, he reassured his audience of his commitment to continue crafting songs, videos, and short films and potentially exploring projects for OTT platforms.

While acknowledging his reluctance to depart from the cinematic landscape, Puthren highlighted the absence of viable options amidst his current health concerns, asserting his unwillingness to make commitments that cannot be upheld when grappling with unpredictable health issues. He likened health challenges to an unexpected plot twist, akin to an interval point or a punch in a cinematic narrative.

Alphonse Puthren gained widespread recognition with his debut film ‘Neram,’ starring Nivin Pauly in the lead role. His subsequent creation, ‘Premam,’ featuring Nivin Pauly, became a trendsetting phenomenon in South India. However, his latest release, ‘Gold,’ starring Prithviraj, failed to resonate strongly with audiences.

The director had earlier announced projects such as ‘Pattu’ with Fahad Fazil and a Tamil venture named ‘Gift.’ However, the fate of these ventures remains uncertain in light of Puthren’s recent decision to step back from traditional theatrical cinema.
