Sarath Kumar on Rajinikanth joining politics: Tamil Nadu should be ruled by a Tamilian

Unlike Kerala, Tamil Nadu has seen many political leaders emerging from the field of cinema. There have been many successful and highly respected politicians in Tamil Nadu from the film industry. MGR, Jayalalithaa, Sarath Kumar, Kushboo Sundar and Vijayakanth are some of them. Leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu, M Karunanidhi was also a popular writer in the film industry.

If there was one man’s entry to Tamil Nadu politics that was long awaited, it had to be superstar Rajinikanth. There have been many speculations about Rajinikanth entering politics, but the actor has time and again dismissed the news.

Recently, popular actor/filmmaker Sarath Kumar took a dig at Rajinikanth after reports started doing the rounds again about Rajinikanth starting a new party.

While addressing at the 47th anniversary of the Thuglak magazine event, Rajinikanth said that he is missing the Tamil magazine’s former editor Cho Ramaswamy at a time of unusual political developments in the state, following the passing of late chief minister Jayalalithaa. His statement was believed to be in reference to Sasikala taking over the leadership of AIADMK.

Sarath Kumar has now come out hard at Rajinikanth for his controversial statement, calling him an outsider and asking him to be careful about his comments on public platforms. Sarath Kumar said there is nothing unusual about the state’s political situation even as he observed that the change of leadership in the AIADMK party was a normal process following the death of Jayalalithaa.

In a recent press meet Sarath Kumar said, “Rajinikanth is a good friend, nice person and the biggest superstar. But if he starts a political party, I will be the first person to oppose it. I have acted in hit films in Kannada and Malayalam. That doesn’t mean I can contest elections in Karnataka or Kerala. Everyone is allowed to live and do business anywhere in the country, but in Tamil Nadu, only a Tamilian should become the chief minister.”

It must be remembered that Rajinikanth has his roots in Karnataka.
