Second part for Philips and the Monkey Pen

Philips and the Monkey Pen released in 2013 was a successful movie that was appreciated for it’s out of the box theme and presentation. The movie was directed by debutants Rojin Thomas and Shanil Muhammed.

The movie dealt about the problems faced by kids academically. Child artists Sanoop Santosh, Gourav Menon, Jayasurya, Ramya Nambeesan, Joy Mathew, Mukesh and Vijay Babu played prominent roles in the movie. The movie went on to bag many awards including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Children’s Film. Sanoop Santhosh won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance in the movie.

Now the producer of the movie Vijay Babu has announced the sequel to Philips and the Monkey Pen and interestingly the entire team of the original will be there in the second part also.

Vijay Babu said, the new movie will feature the same child actors and the same characters but with different problems. At each age group, children have different issues. The original character, Ryan Philips, was just a representative of his age group. Similarly the protagonist in this new movie will also represent the children in the age group of 12-14.

Rojin Thomas who will be directing the sequel has said that they had been looking for an interesting theme for the second part for some time. The subject handled in this new movie has only been rarely explored in movies before. He said that the theme will perfect for the sequel to Monkey Pen. He added that the magical pen will also be present in the film.

This would be the first time in Malayalam cinema that the real time growth of children will be shown in two films. While the first part had Ryan Philip and his friends in Class V, the new movie will have them as Class VIII children.
