Sequel for Vaishali through a story; A budding writer’s tribute to MT Vasudevan Nair

Vaishali, directed by legendary filmmaker is considered as an all time classic in Malayalam cinema. The movie, written by MT Vasudevan Nair was an adaptation of a sub story told by Vedavyasa to King Yudhishtira in the Hindu epic Mahabharatha.

Vaishali was the story of a devadasi girl who was assigned the mission of seducing Rishyashrungan, a saint and bringing him to their kingdom for performing a yaga to bring rain.

The character Vaishali will still be a haunting figure for many. She was neglected by her own people after she successfully brought Rishyashrungan and their kingdom was blessed with rain. Have you ever thought that the people should be punished for abandoning Vaishali?

A budding writer Jenith Kachappilly has done the same through his powerful words. Jenith had earlier written a book called Kadhayillatha Kadhakal. Samrajyangal Asthamikkumbol, a story about Vaishali was one of the chapters in that book. Unfortunately, Vaishali was neglected again, but this time by the editor.

However, Jenith held the story close to him and it is now being published as a graphic story in Manorama Online. Jenith Kachappilly, who is also a filmmaker presents his work as a tribute to the legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair and Vaishali. Artist Pavi Sankar has breathed life into Jenith’s words through his drawings.
