Shruthi Ramachandran and husband Francis Thomas script Jayaram-Kalidas duo’s segment in Putham Pudhu Kaalai

As reported earlier, five prominent filmmakers from Tamil cinema are coming together for ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’, an Amazon Prime original film. It is an anthology of 5 short films featuring stories of love, new beginnings, second chances, and a glimmer of hope during these tough times. Sudha Kongara, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Karthik Subbaraj and Suhasini Mani Ratnam are directing the films. All the stories are set and shot during the COVID-19 lockdown time.

Sudha Kongara’s film titled ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’ has a stellar star cast comprising of Kalidas Jayaram, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Urvashi and Jayaram in the lead roles. Madhavan is also said to be part of the film. Interestingly, this segment is scripted by Malayali actress Shruthi Ramachandran (Pretham, Sunday Holiday) and her husband Francis Thomas.

Francis, a Tamilian, had earlier scripted the Malayalam thriller ‘Anveshanam’ that had Jayasurya and Shruthi as the leads. It will be interesting to see how the writer couple has treated a short film subject that is part of an anthology. For ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’, director Sudha has retained DOP Niketh Bommireddy and composer GV Prakash from ‘Soorarai Pottru’.

Karthik Subbaraj’s segment in ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ is titled as ‘Miracle’. It has Bobby Simha and ‘Petta’ fame Muthu Kumar in the lead roles. Gautham Menon’s film has an interesting title — ‘Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum’. MS Baskar and Ritu Varma star in it. Govind Vasantha is composing the music for this segment.

Suhasini Mani Ratnam’s film is titled as ‘Coffee, Anyone?’. Suhasaini herself is playing one of the leads alongside her cousins Anu Haasan and Shruti Haasan. Rajiv Menon’s segment titled ‘Reunion’ is headlined by Andrea Jeremiah, ‘OK Kanmani’ fame Leela Samson and Sikkhil Gurucharan.

‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 16.
