Soorya Krishnamoorthy about Veeram

National award winner Jayaraj’s historic epic drama Veeram was released on February 24. The movie, based on the Vadakkan Pattukal from the North Malabar region, is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor has played the role of Chandu Chekavar, a warrior in the movie.

Veeram has been getting good response from the audience and the critics. Critics in particular have appreciated the team’s efforts to make the movie in such a big canvas within the limits of Malayalam film industry. Eminent theatre personality Soorya Krishnamoorthy after the watching the movie said,

I saw the film only last night. The film be written in golden letters in the history of world films. Every frame is a beautiful painting. The screenplay with limited words, will be a book for research in the literary world.”

Though the plot of Veeram is familiar to Malayali audience, it’s the treatment and the presentation that has worked well for the movie. The setting, geography of the land, visuals and character looks are all entirely different from what we have seen in other movies.

Veeram was made as a multilingual in Malayalam, Hindi and English. Top notch technical values are the major highlight of the movie. Veteran cinematographer S Kumar has cranked the camera while Appu N Bhattathiri handled the edits.

Allan Poppleton, who has worked in Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings and Avatar has choreographed the stunts in the movie. Oscar and Emmy award winning make-up artist Trefor Proud is also part of the technical team of Veeram. Award winning composer Jeff Rona, who was a former associate of the legendary Hans Zimmer, has handled the music department.

Chandramohan Pillai and Pradeep Rajan of Chandrakala Arts jointly produced this big budget movie.
