Superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty bid emotional farewell to Dennis Joseph

The passing away of veteran screenwriter and director Dennis Joseph has put the whole Malayalam film industry in a state of grief. The 64-year-old breathed his last following a cardiac arrest. Almost all the industry members, including seniors and youngsters, have shared their condolence messages in social media.

The Big Ms of Malayalam, Mohanlal and Mammootty, have written highly emotional farewell notes. It is worth a mention that it was their collaboration with Dennis that elevated them to the coveted superstar status. That gratitude and bond they share with Dennis is evident from their farewell notes.

Mohanlal shared a nostalgic photo of them together from their early days. The two have worked together in films like ‘Rajavinte Makan’, ‘Bhoomiyile Rajakkanamar’, ‘Gandharvam’, ‘No.20 Madras Mail’ etc. Dennis’ last film as a scenarist, ‘Geethanjali’ also had Mohanlal in it.

Mohanlal’s tribute reads,

As I write these lines for my beloved Dennis, it feels like memories are sprouting out of nowhere and stopping my hands. Dennis was the king of the world of screenwriting. I was lucky enough to give life to so many characters penned by him. Dennis hid everything behind a gentle smile and never expected anything in return. He is an unique genius who has gifted so much to Malayalam cinema ranging from racy stories, sweetness of romance, stirring emotional moments and the tears of pain. I can never say enough of my bond with Dennis. So I’m stopping halfway, with stumbling fingers.
Adieu Dennis!

Mammootty also shared a very close bond with Dennis Joseph. The latter’s first film as a scenarist, ‘Eeran Sandhya’ had Mammootty as one of the leads. Later, at a time when Mammootty’s career was declining, it was Dennis’ ‘New Delhi’ that turned fortunes earning him the superstar tag. Some of their most memorable films include ‘Nirakkoottu’, ‘Shyama’, ‘Sangham’, ‘Nair Saab’, ‘Kottayam Kunjachan’, ‘Kizhakkan Pathrose’ etc. Mammootty also played the lead in Dennis’ directorial debut ‘Manu Uncle’, which won the National and State awards for Best Children’s Film.

Mammootty has shared an emotional note, which reads,

I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Dennis Joseph. The brother-like friend who was with me in all my highs and lows is no more, and he will be remembered through all the films he wrote and directed. I wish you eternal peace.
