Suriya Prabhas movie boxoffice collection
Suriya’s ‘Kanguva’ Faces Historic Box Office Debacle, Exceeding Losses of Prabhas’ ‘Radhe Shyam’
Suriya’s much-anticipated fantasy action film Kanguva has emerged as the biggest box office disaster in South Indian cinema, surpassing even Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam. Directed by Siva, the film was mounted on a massive budget of over ₹300 crores, but its theatrical performance has been shockingly underwhelming.
Despite a strong opening, earning ₹24 crores net in India and ₹40 crores gross worldwide on day one, the film witnessed a steep decline in collections. By the end of its first week, Kanguva managed a mere ₹96.66 crores worldwide, with daily collections dropping to as low as ₹2.43 crores in India. Negative reviews and poor word-of-mouth severely impacted its performance, leading to estimated losses of over ₹150 crores for producers Studio Green and UV Creations.
The losses have set an unfortunate record, outpacing the ₹120-crore deficit of Radhe Shyam. Rumors suggest that Suriya may collaborate on a low-budget film with Studio Green at a reduced fee to help offset the financial blow.
Once expected to rake in ₹400-500 crores globally, Kanguva now struggles to reach even ₹150 crores. This unprecedented failure has left fans and the industry shocked, questioning the viability of big-budget ventures.
