Tamil filmmaker SP Jananathan passes away
Tamil filmmaker SP Jananathan, best known for his films like ‘Iyarkkai’ and ‘Peranmai’, has passed away. On Thursday, the 61-year-old was found unconscious at his home and was immediately rushed to the Apollo Hospital, Chennai. Reports from doctors declared the director brain dead and he was put on ventilator support. His condition did not show any progress and breathed his last on Sunday morning.
SP Jananathan was busy with the post-production works of his new film ‘Laabam’ that has Vijay Sethupathi and Shruthi Haasan as the leads. On Thursday afternoon, the director was editing the film when he took a break and went back home for lunch. When he did not return to the editing room, his assistants rushed back to his residence and found him unconscious.
SP Jhananathan made his debut in 2003 with the romantic film ‘Iyarkkai’. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. He later made ‘E’, ‘Peranmai’, ‘Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai’ and ‘Bhooloham’. All his films had anti-capitalistic sentiments and stood by the working class. His upcoming film ‘Laabam’ is also a socially relevant one that discusses about the plight of the farmers in the country today.
