Thalaivi: Kangana Ranaut to play Jayalalithaa in biopic

As we already know, there are multiple projects getting ready in Kollywood based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. AL Vijay is helming a movie titled ‘Thalaivi’ and it will have Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut playing the lead. The official announcement was made last day on the occasion of Kangana’s birthday.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted,

#BigNews: Kangana Ranaut to play Jayalalithaa… Biopic will be made in two languages. Titled #Thalaivi in Tamil and #Jaya in Hindi… Directed by AL Vijay… Written by KV Vijayendra Prasad [#Baahubali and #Manikarnika]… Produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh.

‘Thalaivi’ is being produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri. Vijayendra Prasad, who has penned films like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Bhajrangi Bhaijaan’ is scripting this film. Nirav Shah will be cranking the camera and music will be composed by GV Prakash. Antony will be handling the edits. National award winning Malayali make up man Pattanam Rasheed has also been signed for this prestigious project.

Other than ‘Thalaivi’, there are two other biopics on Jayalalithaa getting ready. Director A Priyadaarshani, a former associate of Mysskin, is working on a film titled ‘The Iron Lady’. Nithya Menen plays the late CM’s role. Legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja had also announced that he would be helming a biopic on Jayalalithaa titled ‘Thaai: Puratchi Thalaivi’.

Gautham Menon is also working on a web series based on Jayalalithaa’s life. Ramya Krishnan plays the lead role in it.
