Thalapathy 64: Vijay to play a ruthless gangster in his next?

There is a strong buzz in Kollywood medias that Vijay’s next after the ongoing Atlee film will be helmed by promising young director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The director had recently met Vijay and pitched a subject. Apparently, the actor was highly impressed by the storyline and has asked to develop it.

It is said that Lokesh is planning an action film with Vijay in which he will be playing the role of a ruthless gangster. If things turn out as per plans, the film will start rolling by the end of this year. Vijay last played a similar role in ‘Thalaivaa’, which failed to reap the desired benefits. So the actor will be trying to make sure that this one hits the bulls eye. The official announcement is expected to be made on his birthday which falls on June 22.

Lokesh made his debut in 2017 with the surprise hit ‘Maanagaram’. The movie, which was a brilliantly made hyperlink thriller, had Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassanadra and Sri in the lead roles. It emerged both as a critical and commercial success. Since then, Lokesh has been rated as one of the most promising new gen filmmakers in Tamil at present. Earlier, the director had also planned an action packed entertainer with Suriya but the project didn’t masterialize. It remains to be seen if he is reviving the same film with Vijay.

Meanwhile, shoot for Vijay-Atlee duo’s film is currently progressing at a brisk pace. As we already know, it is a sports based flick centred around woman’s football. Vijay plays a player-turned-coach in the movie. Nayanthara is paired with him. Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Induja, Varsha Bollamma, Reba Monica John, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Daniel Balaji and many others are part of the supporting cast. AGS Entertainment is producing the movie, which is slated for a grand Diwali release in October.
