The announcement came on Friday, following the approval of his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, in a meeting held in Chennai last week. Vijay clarified that his party would not participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and would refrain from endorsing any other political entity, as decided in the recent general council and executive council meetings.

Vijay stated, “I have decided to fulfill my prior film commitments without compromising the party’s efforts and fully immerse myself in the politics of public service. This is my way of expressing gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu,” as reported by news agency PTI.

The news sparked spontaneous celebrations among Vijay’s ardent fan base, a common trend in a state that has witnessed the transition of cinema stars to the political arena, with notable examples being the late MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

Vijay has harbored political aspirations for over a decade, consistently involving his fan clubs in various charitable and welfare initiatives.
