Veteran Mollywood Actor T.P. Madhavan Passes Away at 88
Renowned Malayalam cinema actor T.P. Madhavan passed away at the age of 88 in a Kollam hospital on Wednesday, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of Indian cinema. The veteran actor, who had been battling stomach-related ailments and was on a ventilator in his final days, left an indelible mark on Mollywood with his versatile performances spanning over four decades.
Madhavan’s acting journey began at the age of 40, much later in life than many of his peers. His debut came in 1975 with the film Raagam. Initially known for playing villainous roles, Madhavan’s impressive ability to switch between genres saw him excel in comedic roles and powerful character performances, making him a favorite across generations. With more than 600 films to his credit, Madhavan became a stalwart in Malayalam cinema, starring in iconic films like Nadodikkattu, Moonnam Mura, Oru CBI Diarykurippu, Vietnam Colony, Lelam, Aaram Thamburan, and Pathram.
Beyond his acting career, Madhavan also played a pivotal role in the Malayalam Movie Artists Association (AMMA), serving as its first General Secretary from 1994 to 1997, and as Joint Secretary from 2000 to 2006.
In his later years, Madhavan resided at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram, Kollam, after facing financial and health challenges. Despite this, he continued to act in films and serials until a degenerative illness slowed him down. He is survived by his children, including his son Raja Krishna Menon, a noted Bollywood director. Madhavan’s contributions to cinema will be remembered for years to come.
