Vijay Sethupathi was initially approached to play a prominent role in 1971 Beyond Borders!

Vijay Sethupathi is unarguably one of the most talented actors in South Indian cinema. The actor has been making waves with his works in Kollywood. Unlike his contemporaries, Vijay Sethupathi is not tied down by the baggage of expectations. He has showcased his versatile acting skills by being part of many quality films.

The actor has often expressed his admiration for Malayalam cinema and it’s artists. In a recent interview to an UAE based media group, the actor was asked whether he has any plans to act in a Malayalam movie. Vijay Sethupathi then made a very interesting revelation. He was initially approached to play a crucial role in Major Ravi’s war drama 1971 Beyond Borders. He could not do the movie then due to his date issues and other prior commitments.

We presume that Vijay Sethupathi was offered the role of the Tamil soldier which was eventually done by Allu Sirish. The movie was based on the 1971 war fought between India and Pakistan. Mohanlal, Bollywood actor and Allu Sirish played the major roles. Despite coming in with high expectations, the movie ended up as a disappointing affair at the box office.

In the interview, Vijay Sethupathi assured that he will be doing a Malayalam when the right time and project comes. The busy actor currently has around six to seven projects in his kitty. He is presently shooting for Seethakathi, directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan. Gokul’s Junga, C Prem Kumar’s 96 and Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe are some of the projects in the pipeline. He is also part of a couple of multistarrers films – the multilingual Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Mani Ratnam’s next.
