Vinayakan in contention for National Film Awards

Vinayakan, who won the Kerala State best actor award for the year 2016 is being considered for the best actor award in the 64th National Film awards also. The actor’s name has been included in the list submitted by the regional juries of South Indian films.

Vinayakan’s performance as Ganga in Rajeev Ravi’s Kammatipaadam won him widespread appreciation from the audience and the critics. The Kerala State Award jury’s decision to award Vinayakan was praised unanimously.

Amitabh Bachchan (Pink), Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Haraamkhor, Raman Raghav 2.0), Vijay Sethupathy (Iraivi, Aandavan Kattalai), Guru Somasundaram (Joker), SJ Suryah (Iraivi) will be some of the other contenders for the best actor award.

Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan is the chairman of the National Film Awards committee. According to reports, around 380 films from various languages have been submitted for the awards. The regional juries will shortlist their entries from these movies.

15 movies have been submitted from Malayalam and Tamil. Ennu Ninte Moideen director RS Vimal was also part of the jury that shortlisted the Malayalam and Tamil movies.

The regional jury has recommended 10 films for awards in various categories. Maheshinte Prathikaram, Kaadu Pookunna Neram, Ottayal Paatha, Kammattipadam, Guppy, Pinneyum, Minnaminungu and Kambhoji are among the Malayalam movies suggested by the regional jury. Some other movies that have not had a theatrical release are also part of the list.

The screening of films for the regional juries was held from February till March first week. The 64th National awards will be announced by the end of March or early next month.
