Aby Review: Flies high above all the obstacles

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Aby, after being marred by a a lot of controversies has finally hit screens today. Popular scribe Santhosh Echikkanam has written the movie. The movie is directed by Srikanth Murali, a long time associate of Priyadarshan.

Cut straight to the plot, Aby is the story of a boy’s dream to fly. Aby’s parents get a wrong impression that their son is speech and hearing impaired. They try all means to make him talk but in vain. Finally, he utters a word at an heartbreaking moment. Even then, his aim was to accomplish his dream of flying high.

It is a well crafted movie that has it’s heart at the right place with an inspiring story. The director and writer’s conviction in presenting such an heartwarming story with utmost realism is praiseworthy.

The first half of the movie flows smoothly without any major bumps but in the second half we get to feel some lag. However, the director has proved his skills by cleverly placing some impressive scenes in between. The movie oozes realism and freshness, be it with the performances or in the making side. An engaging screenplay with the right blend of humor and emotions is the backbone of the movie. The movie will inspire us to work honestly towards your dreams to finally see the elusive success.

Vineeth Sreenivasan has given his career best performance as the title character Aby. The actor was fabulous in portraying Aby’s mental and physical struggles. Mareena Michael is the other show stealer. Her endearing performance as Anumol stands head to head with that of Vineeth Sreenivasan’s. Her body language, dialogue delivery and expressions were top notch. She shared a beautiful chemistry with Vineeth Sreeniavasn in the movie and the promising actress certainly has a bright career ahead.

Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sudheer Karamana gave commendable performances. Other supporting actors including Aju Varghese, Hareesh Perady, Manish Choudhary, Dileesh Pothen and Vinitha Koshy were decent with their performances.

In the making side, the technical team behind the movie had done a great job. Sudheer Surendran’s cinematography in the initial few scenes and the climax portions are splendid. Songs were mediocre but the background score was refreshing. Sooraj ES’ seamless editing has only enhanced the final product.

In a nutshell, Aby is a well-crafted simple feel good movie that has it’s share of easily forgettable flaws.
