Achayans Review: Another disappointing Jayaram movie

For sometime now, Jayaram has been in awful form. He has failed repeatedly to get back to his old self, the Jayaram who was a favourite for the families. Achayans is his latest attempt to get back to winning ways.

Achayans is his third film with Kannan Thamarakkulam. The movie, written by Sethu has an ensemble cast that comprises of Unni Mukundan, Prakash Raj, Amala Paul, Anu Sithara, Sshivada Nair, Adil Ibrahim, Sanju Sivaram and many others. So, does Achayans entertain you as the makers had promised. Let’s see..

Roy Thottathil (Jayaram) along his brothers Tony (Unni Mukundan), Aby (Adil Ibrahim) and their common friend Rafi (Sanju Sivaram) are out on a trip. The story takes a turn when they come across two girls Ritha (Amala Paul) and Prayaga (Anu Sithara). What follows is a mishmash of events that is supposed to be thrilling.

Apart from their stylish looks, none of the actors have substantial roles to perform. Jayaram does not have anything significant to do while Prakash Raj is wasted in a poorly written role. Amala Paul as the tomboyish Rita and Unni Mukundan as the alcoholic Tony failed miserably. All the other actors just fill up the background space.

Sethu’s screenplay is sluggish with some unnecessary subplots. There is forced humour, needless songs and whole lot of melodrama. Kannan Thamarakkulam’s beaten to death film making style, Gopi Sunder’s loud music and the mediocre performances make Achayans a tiresome watch.

Kannan Thamarakkulam and writer Sethu should have tried to bring something novel after managing to bring such a big cast on board. In a nutshell, we won’t recommend anyone to watch Achayans. Can be easily skipped.
