Diwanjimoola Grand Prix Review: A perfectly entertaining satire

Diwanjimoola Grand Prix is the fourth directorial venture of Anil Radhakrishnan Menon after the National award winning North 24 Kaatham, Sapthamsree Thaskaraha and Lord Livingston 7000 Kandi. Like all his previous films, this one also has a peculiar title raising the curiosity of the audience. The movie has hit screens today. Let’s see how the movie has turned out to be.

Diwanjimoola Grand Prix is set entirely in Thrissur. The plot kicks off after Sajan Joseph (Kunchacko Boban) is appointed as the district collector. Upon arrival, he launches many new initiatives and soon becomes a favourite among the general public. Diwanjimoola is a shady slum area in the district where goons and all sorts of people reside. We are straightaway introduced a host of characters from Diwanjimoola. The ward is headed by Effymol (Nyla Usha) and Jithendran (Siddique) is a resident of that locality, who was once a very popular bike racer. Presently, he is bed ridden after meeting with an accident. The movie explores the life and the problems of the people of Diwanjimoola.

Kunchacko Boban is at his usual best with an effortless performance as the district collector. Nyla Usha’s Effymol is her career best role and she makes the best out of it. The ever dependent Siddique has given a wonderful performance and the veteran once again proves why he is among the best character actors we have today. The newcomers are all impressive and kudos to the makers for the casting.

Director Anil Radhakrishnan Menon along with his co-writer Prashanth (collector bro) has scripted a neatly engaging film with satirical elements. The visuals are all good and the bike racing scenes have been captured well. Gopi Sunder’s music perfectly suits the mood of the movie.

Overall, Diwanjimoola Grand Prix is a perfectly engaging watch.
