‘Sesham Mikeil Fathima’ Review: Unveiling the Resilient Echoes of Dreams

Manu C Kumar’s ‘Sesham Mikeil Fathima’ resonates as a poignant narrative, unfurling against the vibrant tapestry of Malappuram’s cultural essence. The film chronicles the fervent ambition of Fathima Noorjahan, brilliantly portrayed by Kalyani Priyadarshan, as she endeavors to carve her identity in the male-dominated realm of football commentary.

Plot:

Fathima Noorjahan, raised in an orthodox Muslim household in Malappuram, yearns to venture into football commentary. Her passion for live commentary, nurtured since childhood for football and cartoons, includes local match experiences. Despite pursuing a BSc in Biochemistry, her heart is set on commentating for the IFL. Hindered by familial disapproval, focused on finding her a match, Fathima confronts the male-dominated field’s daunting challenges. Alongside her friend Remya, a journalist, Fathima faces this journey solo. The story pivots on Fathima’s pursuit, questioning if she’ll break barriers and achieve her IFL commentary dream.

Direction and Screenplay:

Director Manu C Kumar adeptly navigates the screenplay, meticulously capturing the dichotomy between tradition and individual dreams. The narrative elegantly intertwines humor and heartfelt emotions, albeit occasionally veering into familiar territory. However, the film’s authenticity and genuine moments override these minor clichés, making it a compelling watch.

Performances:

Kalyani Priyadarshan embodies Fathima’s unwavering determination with remarkable finesse, seamlessly navigating the intricate layers of societal expectations and personal aspirations. Her portrayal, adorned with the eloquent Malabar dialect, encapsulates the soul of the character, endearing her to the audience’s hearts.

The ensemble cast, led by Femina George’s unwavering support as Remya Aavani, Shaheen Siddique’s steadfast portrayal of Solomon Margarete, and Parvathi T.’s portrayal of Catherine, add depth and authenticity to Fathima’s journey. Each character contributes significantly, enriching the tapestry of emotions. Sudheesh, Aneesh G Menon, and Sabumon also did their part to perfection. Gautham Vasudev Menon’s cameo also adds to the allure.

Technical Side:

Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran’s cinematography is a visual feast, capturing Malappuram’s essence with breathtaking beauty. The scenic visuals seamlessly blend with Hesham Abdul Wahab’s enchanting musical scores, evoking an immersive experience that lingers long after the film concludes. Kiran Das’s editing too has given great flow to the narrative.

Final Verdict

‘Sesham Mikeil Fathima’ celebrates not only Fathima’s individual triumph but also serves as a compelling narrative advocating empowerment and breaking stereotypes. It’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a poignant reminder that dreams transcend boundaries. In conclusion, Manu C Kumar’s directorial prowess, coupled with stellar performances, technical finesse, and a heartwarming narrative, make “Sesham Mikeil Fathima” a commendable cinematic experience. It’s an ode to unwavering determination and a celebration of aspirations that will resonate with audiences across varied spectrums.
