Villain: An emotional crime thriller

Villain: An emotional crime thriller

Mohanlal’s much awaited movie Villain has finally hit screens today. This B Unnikrishnan directorial was highly anticipated by the fans as well as the common audience. Apart from Mohanlal, the movie also stars actors like Manju Warrier, Vishal, Hansika Motwani Srikanth and Raashi Khanna. Rockline Films is making their maiden production venture in Mollywood by funding this big budget movie.

Villain is the story of Mathew Manjooran, a cop who is mentally depressed with a tragedy in his family life. He returns to service after a break of seven long months. The same day, he gets to prove a murder case unexpectedly.

Villain is all about his journey through the twists and turns of the case. Mohanlal once said that Mathew Manjooran will be one of the most different characters in his acting career. And its true, Villain’s Mathew Manjooran is probably the most challenging character that Mohanlal has played in recent times. He has managed to control the emotions in a different way.

B Unnikrishnan shaped the movie in such a way to use the possibilities and extents of the actor in Mohanlal. The antagonist in Villain is quite different from what we get to see in the regular thriller films. Tamil actor Vishal managed to esaay his role in a graceful manner and earned a lot of applause from the audience.

Manju Warrier, Hansika, Rasi Khanna, Siddhique, Ranji Panicker, Chemban Vinod, Srikanth and Aju Varghese played their roles decently. The cinematography of Manoj Paramahamsa and NK Ekkambaram was outstanding. The pattern of the shot compositions were well versed. The editing was neatly done by Shameer Mohamed and Sushin Shyam was amazing in handling the background score.

The action sequences were stunning and were nicely executed. Some VFX shots were bit dissapointing. Still some questions are unanswered. Despite the familiar story-telling, Villain is distinguished by its emotional part. Villain has an emotional approach rather than a thriller image.
