Ace filmmaker Kamal’s Aami has constantly been in the news. The movie which is the biopic on legendary writer Madhavikutty aka Kamala Das has Manju Warrier playing the central role. Murali Gopy, Anoop Menon and promising young actor Tovino Thomas are also there in crucial roles. As informed earlier, the makers released the movie’s official trailer today.

Aami, scripted by director Kamal himself captures the various phase of Madhavikutty’s life. Initially, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan was cast for the titular role but she opted out at the last moment owing to creative differences with the director. Madhavikutty aka Kamal Das’ life was marred by several controversies. She revolutionized writings with her honest treatment of female sexuality and infused her writing with power and bold themes.

Shoot for the movie was completed with multiple schedules in Kerala, Kolkata and some other parts of North India. While Madhu Neelakandan cranked the camera, veteran Sreekar Prasad edited the movie. Aami has a Urdu ghazal song penned by Gulzar and composed by Thoufeeq Quershi. M Jayachandran has tuned the Malayalam songs for which Rafeeq Ahammed has written the lyrics. Bijibal is in charge of the background score. The movie is produced by Raphael Thomas Pozholiparambil under the banner of Reel and Real Cinema.
