Anwar Rasheed to back Othalanga Thuruthu movie adaptation!

During this lockdown period, Malayalam web series ‘Othalanga Thuruthu’ found a lot of fans in social medias. Though the makers have released just 6 episodes so far, the series has got a massive reach among the youngsters. It is now learnt that director Anwar Rasheed has offered to produce the movie adaptation of ‘Othalanga Thuruthu’. A formal announcement is expected to be made soon.

‘Othalanga Thuruthu’ is a fun web series that is written, directed and edited by Ambuji. Though the first episode was released almost a year back, the series found popularity only recently. All the 6-episodes have now garnered over 1.5 million views. The realistic treatment, overall quirkiness and the non-stop humour, that is both situational and exaggerated, has worked big-time.

It will be interesting to see how ‘Othalanga Thuruthu’ gets adapted to a movie format. Anwar Rasheed is known for being extremely successful, both as a director and a filmmaker. With someone like him backing the project, the young team should have the liberty to make a quality product without much compromise on budget. The series has Abin Bino, Jayesh Janardhan, and Jagadeesh Kumar in the lead roles. It remains to be seen if the same cast and crew will be retained for the film adaptation.
