Bigil becomes this year’s biggest opener in Chennai

The hugely awaited Vijay starrer ‘Bigil’ got released worldwide last day. The movie has been released in around 4200 screens across the globe and as expected it has taken a phenomenal opening at the box office. In Chennai city, the film has emerged as the biggest opening day grosser of 2019. ‘Bigil’ has grossed a whopping Rs 1.79 crore despite releasing on a working day.

It is Vijay’s second best Chennai city opener after last year’s ‘Sarkar’. Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘2.O’ tops the list of biggest openers in Chennai city box office. ‘Bigil’ achieved this remarkable feat despite the fact that it had to face stiff competition from ‘Kaithi’. The Karthi starrer has opened to unanimously positive reviews and has earned Rs 32 lakhs in the city box office.

In domestic centres like Kerala, Karnataka and the Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, ‘Bigil’ has opened to huge numbers. Telugu version of the film, which has been titled as ‘Whistle’ also got released last day. A simultaneous release has definitely proved beneficial in the earnings.
