Here’s what Dulquer Salmaan has to say about fan fights!

In India, cinema is closely knit with the lives of the commoners. Most of our movies are a reflection of our culture and society. Naturally, the viewers have an affinity towards the actors who play the larger than life characters on-screen. The affinity on most occasions become fandom and they end up ‘hero worshipping’.

This trend has been prevalent in India from the black and white times itslef. But these days hero worshipping has gone to the next level of personal attacks and degrading others’ films. In this age of social medias, fan fights are a very common sight.

A casual banter or healthy arguments have always been welcomed. But those are a rarity these days as these ‘so called’ fans are busily involved in abusing and bullying. Several actors have come out requesting fans not to indulge in such activites.

But, young star Dulquer Salmaan has a different perspective on this issue. In a recent interview to TOI, he shared his thoughts on fan fights. He is quoted saying,

“Do you think Vijay or Ajith have ever had a fight? I think they are just happy, living their lives or meeting up for dinner, etc. I think fan base is like supporting a sports team. I like CSK and so, I support them, and you might like RCB and therefore, you root for them. In India, before cricket became a craze, we only had movies. So, if fans are having fun, it’s great. I don’t think any of the actors have a problem with each other. How can they compare two big films by two big stars? They might have been conceived in different times, dealing with different subjects, etc. So, social wars are a lot like supporting a sports team.”

On the work front, Dulquer’s last release Parava, in which he played an extended cameo, is getting excellent response from the audience. He is currently awaiting the release of Solo, his much anticipated Tamil-Malayalam bilingual directed by Bejoy Nambiar. Besides that he is also simultaneously working in his debut Hindi (Karwaan) and Telugu (Mahanati) films.
