Kannur Squad Achieves Milestone as the 6th Highest Grossing Film in Mollywood, Surpasses Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup

Megastar Mammootty’s recent cinematic offering, ‘Kannur Squad,’ is on the brink of completing its theatrical journey, solidifying its status as a massive blockbuster in the realm of Mollywood. The film has not only carved a significant niche as the second-highest-grossing movie in Mammootty’s illustrious career but has now triumphed as the 6th highest worldwide grosser in Mollywood, surpassing the benchmark set by Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Kurup.’

In 2021, ‘Kurup’ amassed an impressive global revenue of approximately 82 crores. ‘Kannur Squad’ has now eclipsed this milestone, firmly securing its position as the 6th highest grosser. Mammootty’s paramount achievement remains ‘Bheeshmaparvam,’ which raked in around 85 crores.

The current top 5 highest worldwide grossers in Mollywood encompass films from various years: 2018 (175 crores), ‘Pulimurugan’ (143 crores), ‘Lucifer’ (128 crores), ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ (85 crores), and ‘RDX’ (84 crores). Debutant director Roby Varghese Raj helmed the journey of ‘Kannur Squad,’ which was financially supported by Mammootty’s own production house, Mammootty Kampany. This 32-crore budgeted film, scripted by Rony David Raj and Muhammad Rafi, found its distribution roots in Kerala through Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films.
