Karthi's Kaithi and Vijay's Bigil to clash at the box office
Karthi’s Kaithi and Vijay’s Bigil to clash at the box office!
The stage is set for a big clash at the Tamil Nadu box office this Diwali. Vijay’s ‘Bigil’ and Karthi’s ‘Kaithi’ will be hitting screens on October 25, Friday. Vijay Sethupathi’s ‘Sanga Tamizhan’ was also initially part of the race but the makers backed out recently. So that means it will be a direct clash between ‘Bigil’ and ‘Kaithi’, both of which has high expectations among the audience.
‘Bigil’ marks Vijay’s third outing with director Atlee after the success of ‘Theri’ and ‘Mersal’. Made on a whopping budget of Rs 180 crores, ‘Bigil’ is a mass entertainer with women’s football at its core. Vijay supposedly plays a dual role in the film. The star essays the roles of a gangster father and a football enthusiast son, who later becomes a woman’s team coach. The extraordinary response to the film’s trailer has heightened the expectations and it is most certain to take a record breaking opening. In Kerala, ‘Bigil’ will be released jointly in a good number of screens by Prithviraj Productions and Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames.
While ‘Bigil’ is conceived as a wholesome festival entertainer, ‘Kaithi’ looks like an action-packed crime thriller. Lokesh Kanagaraj is directing the film and is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures. Interestingly, Lokesh’s next film is with Vijay, shoot for which has already begun. From the trailer, ‘Kaithi’ hints at a raw action packed flick. The cast also includes Narain, George Maryan, Ramana, Dheena, Vatsan Chakravarthy, Yogi Babu, Mahanadi Shankar, Ponvannan and Thalaivasal Vijay.
Eight years back, in 2011, Karthi and Vijay had a direct clash when their films ‘Siruthai’ and ‘Kaavalan’ hit screens during the Pongal season. Both the films had a good run and emerged successful. Hopefully, ‘Bigil’ and ‘Kaithi’ can also repeat the same.
