Legendary art director P Krishnamoorthy passes away
Veteran art director and production designer P Krishnamoorthy has passed away. The 77-year-old breathed his last on Sunday (December 13) night. His last rites will be performed at his residence in Madipakkam in Chennai.
Krishnamoorthy has worked in over 55 films in Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit, Malayalam, Hindi and English languages. In Malayalam alone, he has worked in over 15 films. Some of his most popular works came in South Indian films like ‘Swathi Thirunal’, ‘Vaisali’, ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’, ‘Perumthachan’, ‘Indira’, ‘Parinayam’, ‘Imsai Arasan 23aam Pulikesi’, ‘Naan Kadavul’ etc.
In his illustrious career, Krishnamoorthy has won five National Film Awards— three for Best Art Direction and two for Best Costume Design. Interestingly, two of these awards— Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design came for the same film ‘Bharati’ that got released in 2000. In addition to that, he has also won five Kerala State Film Awards and four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
