Mathukutty Xavier & Asif Ali Unite for a Period Film; Announcement on Feb 4?

Celebrated filmmaker Mathukutty Xavier, best known for his survival thriller Helen, is set to helm an exciting new period film with acclaimed actor Asif Ali in the lead. Written by Mukundan Unni Associates co-writer Vimal Gopalakrishnan, the project is bankrolled by Arun Narayanan under Arun Narayanan Productions. The official announcement is slated for February 4, coinciding with Asif Ali’s birthday, while filming is set to commence in 2025.

This upcoming venture marks a significant shift in Mathukutty Xavier’s filmography, as he moves from contemporary thrillers to a periodic setting. His previous directorial, Helen (2019), starring Anna Ben, was widely praised and later remade in Hindi as Mili (2022), featuring Janhvi Kapoor.

Asif Ali, currently riding high on multiple projects, is filming Mirage, a thriller directed by Drishyam filmmaker Jeethu Joseph. The film, co-starring Aparna Balamurali, is expected to showcase Asif in a gripping new avatar. Meanwhile, he is also gearing up for the shoot of Tiki Taka, helmed by Rohit VS, which is set to commence production soon.
