Megastar Mammootty’s Karnan to go on floors this year ?

Malayalam film industry is in a period of transition. Generally, Malayalam movies are known for their novel themes and rooted to realistic portrayal of life events made with minimum production values. But of late, there is a conspicuous change in the mindset of filmmakers in Mollywood. They are willing to try out new genres and plots at a bigger scale.

Mammootty’s Karnan is one such project which is long awaited. Actor/writer P Sreekumar who is the scriptwriter of is movie had earlier confirmed that the scripting is in its final stages. Meanwhile, the pre-production works for this big budget movie are in full swing. Earlier it was reported that Karnan will be made on a budget of 70 crores.

Our sources close to the camp inform that apart from Mammootty a promising young star from Mollywood is also playing an important character. The movie is expected to start rolling by the end of this year. The basic plot of the movie will be focusing on the life of the historic character Karnan from the epic Mahabharatham.

Writer P Sreekumar had also informed that Kurukshetra war will be a very pivotal part in the movie. Karnan’s character has a lot of scope performance and Mammootty will be relishing this opportunity to once again display his impeccable acting prowess. An official confirmation regarding the other cast and crew details is still awaited from the makers side.

Interestingly, RS Vimal who debuted with Ennu Ninte Moideen is also doing a movie based on the life of Karnan. Prithviraj is playing the main lead in the movie which is being made as a multilingual featuring popular stars from other industries also. This movie is produced on a whopping budget of 300 crores. Preproduction works of which have already begun in Ramoji Rao Film city in Hyderabad.

It will be very interesting to see two of the finest actors portraying the same character in two different movies. Mollywood will be witnessing something very unique. Mammootty’s performance in movies like Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja is considered as a textbook for acting in historic characters. That gives him a certain upper hand over Prithviraj.
