Mohanlal, Mammootty and Dulquer Salmaan donate Rs 50 lakhs to Disaster Relief Fund

Kerala is going through a terrible phase as torrential rains have wreaked havoc in several parts of the state. According to the government reports, this is the worst floods in the history of Kerala. Rescue and rehabilitation efforts are still continuing with combined efforts by thousands of people. The state’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had requested people to contribute generously to help better the situation.

Following his request, various political parties, businessmen and celebrities have donated to the Cheif Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF). Malayalam cinema’s top stars, Mohanlal, Mammootty and Dulquer Salmaan have together contributed a sum Rs 50 lakhs to the relief fund. While Mohanlal donated Rs 25 lakhs, Dulquer contributed 10 and Mammootty donated 15. Mammootty personally handed over the cheque to Ernakulam Cheif Minister Mohammed Y Safirulla.

Actors like Jayasurya, Suriya, Karthi, Kamal Haasan, Vijay Deverakonda, Anupama Parameswaran and Tamil cinema actors body (Nadigar Sangam) had also contributed generously to help the thousands of Keralites affected in the floods. Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Prithviraj, Jayaram, Amala Paul, Vinayakan, Navya Nair and Asha Sharath have issued appeal on their social media pages to support the people affected by the floods.

The Kerala government has announced that a sum of Rs 4 lakh each would be would be provided to kin of the deceased and families who had lost their houses in the floods. A sum of Rs 10 lakh each, which includes Rs 6 lakh for purchasing land and Rs 4 lakh for constructing house, will be provided from those families who had lost their properties in landslides and floods.
