Oru Mexican Aparatha and Guppy made me popular among the audience: Tovino Thomas
Tovino Thomas is fast climbing up the ranks to become one of the leading actors of the current crop in Mollywood. He is on an all-time high after a string of successful movies under his belt. The actor credits Oru Mexican Aparatha and Guppy for cementing his position as a bankable actor. Guppy, directed by John Paul George, did not fare well at the box office but garnered a lot of critical acclaim. After the DVD release, the movie was lapped up by the common audience and also won five awards at the State level.
But it was the success of Oru Mexican Aparatha that made Tovino a big star. The movie which got released in March last year was a campus political drama. The movie struck a chord with the Malayali youngsters and the movie emerged as a huge success at the box office. Tovino followed it up with well received films like Godha, Tharangam and Mayaanadhi. The actor now has a handful of projects in his kitty, some of them are really exciting with the team involved.
Besides Malayalam, he has also got a couple of films in Tamil – a bilingual love story Abiyum Anuvum and Maari 2 alongside Dhanush. His next release in Malayalam is debutant TP Fellini’s Theevandi, a political satire that has him playing a chain smoker. Maradona, Oru Kuprasidha Payyan, Luca are his other films coming up this year.
