Solo’s ending was changed as the climax was unacceptable for the society: Producer Abraham Mathew

Dulquer Salmaan’s Solo hit screens last Thursday (October 5) amidst much fanfare. Releasing amidst high expectations, this Bejoy Nambiar directorial opened to mixed response from the audience. Majority of the audience were critical of the fourth story and its strange climax. Many took to social media platforms to express their disappointment about the movie’s ending.

This backlash from the audience forced the makers to chop off the climax portions. The shows from Saturday had a different ending, which was unconvincing and abrupt. Recently, director Bejoy Nambiar and lead actor Dulquer Salmaan had come out clearing airs that the changed ending was done without their knowledge.

Abraham Mathew, who produced the Malayalam version under his banner Abaam Movies, has now come out with a statement that the climax was changed due to the negative response from the audience.

He is quoted saying, “Why changed the ending as the original climax was unacceptable for the society. The audience are now completely satisfied with our decision to change the climax. That has clearly reflected on the collections as the figures have gone up by 50%.”

Solo, made as a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual, is an anthology of four stories. Each story is based on the basic elements of Water, Wind, Earth and Fire. Dulquer plays four different protagonists in the film. These four characters – Shekar, Trilok, Rudra and Siva – are basically the avatars of Lord Shiva.

Bejoy Nambiar, who has also scripted the movie, has woven these four elements with love and revenge as the basic premise. Solo has an elaborate star cast and huge technical crew from industries across the country. Although the movie has failed to connect with the audience, the attempt to try something out of the box has to be appreciated.
