Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru joins the Oscar race!

Suriya starrer ‘Soorarai Pottru’ has joined the Oscars race in multiple categories. As per the makers, the film is in the race for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Original Score among other categories. The film is made available at the Academy Screening Room from Tuesday to be watched by the Academy members for votes and nomination.

Rajsekar Pandian, the film’s co-producer and CEO of 2D Entertainment, broke the big news by tweeting,

Music director GV Prakash also shared his excitement by tweeting,

Earlier, it was reported that ‘Soorarai Pottru’ would be screened at the 2021 Golden Globes Awards for the Best Foreign Film category. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film tells the story of a common man’s journey from humble backgrounds to accomplish his dream of launching his own aircraft business with the aim of serving the underprivileged. It is based on the real life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan.

Suriya’s performance as the protagonist Nedumaaran Rajangam aka Maara got rated by many as one of his finest in his whole career. Lead actress Aparna Balamurali and veteran Urvashi also found widespread appreciation. Due to the pandemic, the film had to skip theatrical release and had its premiere in Amazon Prime Video.
