MGR was an actor, filmmaker and politician who enjoys a popularity among the Tamilians like no one else has. He is a cultural icon of the state and he is regarded as one of the most influential actors of the Tamil film industry.

Currently, filmmaker A Balakrishnan is making a biopic on this legend. The script works have already been completed and the director is planning to approach Sathyaraj to reprise the role of MGR in the film. Balakrishnan has previously directed the biopic on legendary Tamil politician K Kamaraj.

Sathyaraj has apparently seen this film and has praised the filmmaker for his good work. So the director is confident of getting Sathyaraj on board for his biopic on MGR.

Earlier in 1997, legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam directed the movie Iruvar, which was loosely based on the lives of MGR and Karunanidhi. It is rated as one of the all time classics of Indian cinema.

Mohanlal’s performance as Anandhan, a character inspired from MGR, was hugely appreciated. Unlike other actors, who tend to mimic or imitate MGR’s voice and antics, Mohanlal brought an unique flavour of his own. Till date, Anandhan remains one of the best acts of Mohanlal on screen.
